TVI Development Lab · Production self-check

Can a family see what the work is trying to give them?

A good intention can disappear between the brief and the screen. Use twelve questions to test whether the intended value is visible in the story, the behavior, and the family experience.

The mirror

Answer from the work on screen, not the intention document.

Choose “Yes” only when a viewer can point to the evidence. “Not yet” means the intention is known but not consistently legible. “Unclear” means the team may not share the same answer.

01

Intention

What the team believes the work is for.

The target audience and developmental range are written in one sentence the whole team uses.

The team can name one thing the audience should notice, practice, feel, or question after the work.

The team can state what the title does not attempt, without turning that limit into a marketing weakness.

02

On-screen modeling

Whether the claimed value lives in behavior.

Child characters make consequential choices instead of waiting for an adult to explain every conclusion.

The skill or value named in the brief appears in observable behavior and consequence, not only in dialogue.

A mistake, conflict, or misunderstanding gets enough time for recognition and repair rather than being instantly erased.

03

Story integration

Whether learning and feeling belong to the same work.

The stated lesson reinforces the story's emotional logic instead of interrupting or contradicting it.

Learning happens through action, play, problem-solving, or relationship rather than arriving as an appended explanation.

The cut leaves room for attention, frustration, uncertainty, or quiet when the audience needs time to process.

04

Family usefulness

What can travel beyond the episode.

The work creates at least one genuine family question that does not have a single approved answer.

A family can reuse one phrase, practice, game, or point of attention after the screen is off.

Marketing can describe the title's intended value without promising a developmental outcome for an individual child.

This check is complete only when all twelve answers come from the current script, animatic, episode, or cut. It is not a TVI review and does not enter the scored catalog.

This is a production self-check, not a review, score, endorsement, clinical service, or assessment of a child. It does not predict audience or developmental outcomes. Do not email unreleased scripts, cuts, or confidential materials. Begin with the title, production stage, what can still change, and the decision you are trying to make.
