The TVI Take
Phil Lord and Chris Miller's adaptation of the late-1980s TV procedural whose structural achievement was treating its own self-parody as the actual screenplay engine. Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill operate as inverted-stereotype pairing (the dumb jock turns out to be the sensitive one).
The film's commitment to the bait-and-switch register is what allowed the directors to develop the LEGO Movie sensibility next.
