The TVI Take
Netflix live-action adaptation of the animated masterpiece, scored on its own terms. The story bones are inherited and still substantial: war, genocide, identity, and the burden of power.
But condensing twenty episodes into eight flattens the humor and over-explains the mythology, and the execution is uneven, with strong production design and visual effects set against stiff pacing and on-the-nose dialogue. It recaptures the magic of the original only sporadically, landing as a cognitively substantial series carried more by its source than by its adaptation.
