The TVI Take

Damian Lewis commits fully to Lord Davenport's aristocratic imbecility, but the film's reverence for the period drama conventions it parodies produces a tonal restraint that smothers its own punchlines. The anachronistic gag structure borrows from the Zucker brothers' Airplane register without matching that film's density of absurdism, landing most jokes in mild amusement rather than genuine subversion.
