The TVI Take

Andy Breckman's USA Network procedural anchored by Tony Shalhoub as Adrian Monk, a San Francisco detective whose OCD-and-phobia condition is both his investigative method and his social-functional limitation. The structural commitment to letting mental-illness specificity be the protagonist's actual subject, rendered with empathy rather than as comic deficit, is what separates the property from network procedural standard practice.

Shalhoub won three Outstanding Lead Actor Emmys.
