The TVI Take
Catherine Hardwicke's 2008 adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's first novel, with Kristen Stewart's Bella relocating to rainy Forks, Washington, and discovering Robert Pattinson's century-old vampire classmate. The film's craft is mostly invisible because Hardwicke's contributions, the desaturated palette, the actual rain, the female-coded interiority, were not the reasons it became a generational cultural event.
Educational only inasmuch as the franchise's later cultural reckoning over abstinence allegory and consent dynamics taught a cohort of viewers to read texts critically.
