How we stay independent. Editorial scores are not for sale. TVI may take on paid advisory or research work, but no commercial relationship buys coverage, advance access to scores, favorable treatment, or a change to a published finding. We pay for our own streaming subscriptions, and no reviewer sees sponsor data or affiliate revenue tied to a score. More about how we work →
The TVI Take
Linklater's 2005 remake of the 1976 Walter Matthau original. Billy Bob Thornton as the drunk Little League coach.
The remake adds little the source film did not already do better, and the profanity-laden updates often read as forced contemporaneity rather than reimagining. Competent execution but inessential, the rare Linklater film with no clear reason to exist beyond the studio paycheck. Modest entertainment from Thornton's commitment to a thin part.
