The TVI Take
Daniel Knauf's 2003-2005 HBO Depression-era series, a Dust Bowl carnival traveling west while a Methodist preacher in California assembles a counter-movement, both arcs converging on a foretold confrontation between a human avatar of light and a human avatar of darkness. Cancelled at season two of a planned six.
The biblical-Gnostic architecture is denser than most prestige TV dares; the early-2000s production design (sepia tones, period trailers, dry-Oklahoma exteriors) is one of HBO's most committed period builds.
