The TVI Take
J. Lee Thompson turns the fourth Apes film into a blunt slavery-and-uprising allegory, its 1991 ape-servitude city staged with clear echoes of the Watts riots.
Roddy McDowall's Caesar carries real conviction, and his final revolt speech lands, but the thin budget, sparse sets, and on-the-nose script keep the execution rough. Thematically bolder than its craft can support.
