The TVI Take
Mappa and Tezuka Productions' 2019 anime adaptation of Osamu Tezuka's 1967 manga. A boy whose father traded forty-eight body parts to demons for political power reclaims those parts one demon at a time, accompanied by an orphan thief named Dororo.
The premise is body horror and the period is Sengoku-Japan civil war; the actual subject is whether reclaiming what was stolen from you requires becoming the thing that stole it. The 2019 series's reordering of Tezuka's episodic structure into a continuous arc is the adaptation's defining choice.
