The TVI Take
Doug Liman builds the film's intelligence into its structure: the reset mechanic forces the viewer to track state across iterations and read each death as data, so the combat becomes a puzzle. The loop-editing is a real craft achievement, and Cruise's inversion from coward to soldier against Blunt's hardened Rita gives the action a spine.
Smart, rewatchable science fiction that stops short of landmark.
