The TVI Take
Linklater's 2006 adaptation of Eric Schlosser's nonfiction exposé. A multi-thread fiction across one meatpacking town: corporate marketing executive, undocumented slaughterhouse workers, a teenage cashier.
Greg Kinnear, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Wilmer Valderrama, and Ethan Hawke anchor the threads. The film is uneven and didactic at moments, but the educational substrate is real: food industry economics, immigrant labor, the supply chain Americans eat without thinking about. Cognitive engagement from holding the interconnected systems in mind across the runtime.
