Why you should trust this score
How we stay independent. Editorial scores are not for sale. TVI may take on paid advisory or research work, but no commercial relationship buys coverage, advance access to scores, favorable treatment, or a change to a published finding. We pay for our own streaming subscriptions, and no reviewer sees sponsor data or affiliate revenue tied to a score. More about how we work →
The TVI Take
Linklater's 2024 mid-career genre piece, adapted with Glen Powell from Skip Hollandsworth's Texas Monthly profile. Powell plays a New Orleans philosophy professor moonlighting as a fake hit man for police stings, who falls for a client he was supposed to set up.
Sharper than the streaming-romance positioning suggested, the film is a Linklater meditation on the constructed self filed inside a more commercial frame. Educational about identity philosophy and the performance of personhood.
