The TVI Take
Spielberg's 1935-set prequel trades Raiders' mythic intrigue for a relentless thrill ride, the mine-cart chase and rope-bridge collapse standing as landmark practical-stunt sequences that helped force the PG-13 rating into existence. Douglas Slocombe's photography and Williams's score are elite, but the thin cult plot, Willie's shrieking, and dated Orientalist caricature keep it a notch below its predecessor.
