The TVI Take
Disney's second feature and the studio's technical high-water mark: the multiplane camera work in the opening pan over the village and the underwater Monstro chase set a standard animation would chase for decades. Supervising directors Luske and Sharpsteen build a genuine moral fable around conscience, temptation, and consequence, darker than its reputation, from Pleasure Island's donkey transformation to Jiminy Cricket's steady counsel.
"When You Wish Upon a Star" won the Oscar and became the studio's signature.
