The TVI Take
Michael Gracey's debut turns P.T. Barnum into a glossy underdog anthem, and the Pasek and Paul songs plus Ashley Wallen's choreography carry real polish, with "This Is Me" earning its ovation.
But the script sands Barnum's exploitation into feel-good uplift, the bearded-lady and Wheeler subplots stay decorative, and the film asks nothing of the viewer beyond applause. Strong craft in the numbers, thin thought and honesty around them.
