Why you should trust this score
How we stay independent. Editorial scores are not for sale. TVI may take on paid advisory or research work, but no commercial relationship buys coverage, advance access to scores, favorable treatment, or a change to a published finding. We pay for our own streaming subscriptions, and no reviewer sees sponsor data or affiliate revenue tied to a score. More about how we work →
Correction history
Reassessment, August 30, 2026: both founders watched the complete film and rescored it in a full receipted session under the current standard, blind to the prior number. The score changed from 147/200 to 159/200, tier unchanged. The component judgments behind the new number are on file.

Olivia Wilde directs and stars in an English-language remake of Cesc Gay's The People Upstairs. Four actors, one apartment, one dinner party that starts as a noise complaint and ends with Penelope Cruz's sexologist taking a marriage apart.
Wilde shoots through mirrors and doorways so the apartment itself keeps the score, and the dialogue works double shifts, funny on the surface while it negotiates consent, jealousy, and repair underneath. Shot in strict chronological order over 23 days, cut by Yorgos Mavropsaridis with a chamber play's pressure.
