The TVI Take
Gareth Evans's 2011 Indonesian action film traps a 20-man SWAT team inside a Jakarta tower block run by a crime lord. The fight choreography uses pencak silat, Iko Uwais's actual martial art, staged in long takes that show body mechanics rather than impact-cuts.
The film's structural innovation is exhausting its protagonist: by the third floor he's already injured, and the choreography has to invent ways for a depleted body to keep moving.
