Final trailer. Warner Bros. Embedded from the official channel.
The short version: Dune: Part Three has not been rated by the MPA yet. Both earlier films were rated PG-13 for strong violence, and Denis Villeneuve has called this one more action-packed and more tense than the others. It opens December 18, 2026. We have not seen or scored it, and we do not guess at numbers, so this page is what a careful reviewer can tell you today. It will be updated when the rating is published.
What the earlier films were rated for
- Dune (2021) was rated PG-13 for sequences of strong violence, some disturbing images and suggestive material. Dune: Part Two (2024) was rated PG-13 for sequences of strong violence, some suggestive material and brief strong language.
- Dune: Part Three has no MPA rating yet. Some theater listings show PG-13 as a placeholder, but no rating has been published, so treat any listing as unconfirmed.
The story, and the tone the director describes
- The film adapts Frank Herbert's Dune Messiah. It picks up about 17 years after Part Two, with Paul Atreides, played by Timothée Chalamet, ruling an empire won through a holy war he foresaw and could not stop. Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Anya Taylor-Joy and Robert Pattinson are in the cast.
- Villeneuve described it at the trailer launch as a more action-packed, more tense and more muscular film than the two before it. That is a description of tone, not a rating, but it is the best signal available today.
What we can say now, and what we cannot yet
- What we can say: the ratings of the earlier films and what they named, the story the books and studio describe, and the director's own description of the tone.
- What we cannot say yet: the rating, how intense the violence is on screen, an age-fit band, or a TVI Score. Those come from the ratings board and from watching and judging the film, and we will not assert what we have not seen.
- This page upgrades in place when the rating is published and our scored review is ready.
Ask before you decide
Three questions do most of the work before you decide.
- Has your child seen Part Two? This is the third part of one story, and it starts years after the second ends.
- How did your child handle the battles and the darker turns in Part Two? The director describes this film as more tense.
- Is your child ready for a hero who is no longer simply the good guy? The story asks what happens after someone wins.
