The TVI Take
Tim Burton's 2001 reimagining trades the original's political allegory for spectacle. Rick Baker's Oscar-nominated ape prosthetics and Danny Elfman's percussive score are the real achievement; the script strands Mark Wahlberg and detonates on a nonsensical twist ending that mistakes confusion for provocation.
The species-dominance premise prompts some thought but the execution stays shallow.
