Why you should trust this score
How we stay independent. Editorial scores are not for sale. TVI may take on paid advisory or research work, but no commercial relationship buys coverage, advance access to scores, favorable treatment, or a change to a published finding. We pay for our own streaming subscriptions, and no reviewer sees sponsor data or affiliate revenue tied to a score. More about how we work →
The TVI Take
The Wachowskis pour a dynasty's worth of genetic-harvesting lore into a single film, and the design work is real: Caine's gravity-boots, the Abrasax siblings' baroque palaces, a bureaucratic set-piece that skewers estate paperwork. But the writing buckles under its own exposition, the tone lurches from opera to camp, and Redmayne's whispered-then-shrieking Balem sinks scenes that needed menace.
Ambition outruns coherence.
